5 Fashion Pieces You Should Always Have in Your Closet

Welcome back, y’all! I don’t know about y’all, but fashion is a huge part of my life. I love thrifting, shopping, searching for places to thrift and shop…you name it!

What I also love is monitoring fashion trends. Right now, it seems like early 2000s fashion is making a resurgence. Yeah, go ahead and dig out that Baby Phat y’all.

While I’m not one to follow trends too much, there are quite a few pieces that I think are timeless and should be in your closet no matter what the trend.

That’s what today’s blog post is about! Here’s the five fashion pieces you should always have in your closet, no matter what’s on trend at the moment.

First off, you need a blazer.

Blazers are way too versatile for you to not have in your closet. They’re a jacket, obviously, but in the right circumstances, can become a cardigan, shirt and even dress!

I have quite a few different blazers. Some are the typical business colors: brown, black and blue. Many others have funky prints like stripes and houndstooth. I also have cropped blazers, perfect for wearing as a shirt.

I find all the best blazers at my local thrift stores, but stores like H&M and ASOS have had pretty nice ones lately.

Next up…some sort of turtleneck.

We all laughed at that infamous picture of the Rock wearing that black turtleneck, chain and fanny pack, but look what’s trendy in fashion now? ALL OF THOSE THINGS!

I have a mix of cropped turtlenecks, long-sleeved turtlenecks, turtleneck sweaters and more. This is a basic piece that can be found just about anywhere, even Walmart if you know where to look.

I’ve worn turtleneck clothing virtually all seasons, so don’t worry about packing it up after the cool months end.

After that, mom jeans!

Or boyfriend jeans…or the gender-neutral term, oversized jeans.

No matter what you call them, you need them! Preferably high-waisted, but it’s up to you.

I find that these type of jeans are great for a variety of occasions. I’ve worn them to happy hour and parties, but I’ve also worn them while running errands. Of course, the shoes I wore varied from occasion to occasion, but they’re perfect for somebody who needs to be dressed down one part of the day and then dressed up for the other part.

I often roll mine up (#shortgang) but they can be rocked straight as well.

I know many people that buy old Levi’s from a thrift store, but I personally go straight to a chain to buy mine. I try and thrift as much as I can, but I only buy oversized jeans from store labels I’ve worn before (i.e. Forever 21, Boohoo, etc.). It’s worth noting that while the jeans should look a bit oversized and baggy, they should not be swallowing you.

You’re wearing the jeans. The jeans aren’t wearing you! LOL.

Now, a fur coat (faux please).

I’m known for many things. Bubble tea. The color yellow. This blog.

But I’m also known for rocking fur coats. Short, long, cropped, any color, I don’t care. I’m grabbing it and wearing it. You should too!

Now, it’s trial and error when it comes to these type of coats. I don’t recommend grabbing the first coat you see, unless it really speaks to you. I’ve walked past loads of coats in thrift stores, but I left them behind because they weren’t me.

All the coats I have in my closet are statement pieces. I genuinely could not imagine my closet with them in there.

One good fur coat will take your outfit from ooh to WOW. This item is definitely more of a fall/winter item, so if you do manage to find one, make sure you wear it as often as you can during that time of the year.

My favorite faux coats have come from Boohoo and Rue 21. Many others did come from thrifting.

Can y’all tell I love thrifting?

You also need some platform sneakers.

Don’t like sneakers? Just any sort of platform shoes will do.

I definitely should’ve added platform shoes to my brands that I listed previously. You definitely need some sort of platform shoe in your closet.

I live in these platform white shoes that I bought from H&M when their stores began to open back up after their COVID-19 closures. They’re easily one of my most favorite pair of shoes ever.

I also live in a series of platform shoes like the ones below. We love comfort and style!

For us shorties out there, platform shoes add that much needed height to crush our enemies, or just look taller in our photos. Both pluses in my book.

Platform shoes aren’t the only shoes that you should have in your closet, check out five other types of shoes you should have in your closet.

There’s so many other pieces you should have in your closet–I could go on for days. However, that would make for an extremely long blog post. Let me know in the comments below if you’re interested in a part two of this blog post!

Also, let me know in the comments if you have one, or all of these pieces already!

Until next time,
