My Top 5 Self-Care Activities

My Top 5 Self-Care Activities

Welcome back, y’all! It’s all about self-care today. It’s been a long time since my last post, but I’m glad to be back!

I’m sure I don’t have to tell you this, practicing self-care is so so important, especially in today’s society. Doing self-care things don’t have to cost an arm and a leg, or even cost money at all!

Today I’ll be listing all of my favorite self-care activities, from shopping to listening to music and so much more!

1. Shopping

My most favorite self-care activity is to go shopping. Obviously, I’m in college, so I’m not blowing hundreds of dollars at the mall, but when I’m stressed out, sometimes heading to my local Target or mall does the trick.

So I don’t end up spending insane amounts of money when I go out, I always have a limit of what to spend in each store. Sometimes, its $5, sometimes its $20, but I try not to go over these set amounts for myself. It also prevents me from going over my monthly budgets.

Even when I set amounts of what I’m willing to spend in stores, sometimes I go looking around and don’t find anything I want to buy! Just the act of removing myself from the stressful or tense situation does wonders.

2. Face masks

Probably the most common self-care activity–face masks! There’s many different types out there, from cream masks to sheet masks, but my favorite ones are clay masks. Walmart, Target, Ulta and many other places sell all sorts of masks that you can use.

I personally like to do masks in the shower or right when I get in from classes or work for the day. When I do them in the shower, I avoid a wet floor and sink as I try to rinse or peel the mask off. When I do them once I’m back at my apartment for the day, I can busy myself with washing dishes or starting laundry as I wait for the mask to harden.

With some of the best masks being less than $10, face masks are a pretty inexpensive way to relax.

3. Candles and a warm bath

I know most people tend to be a fan of showers, but every once in a while I enjoy a good bath. More particularly, a bath with all the lights off and the only thing illuminating the room are a multitude of candles.

Now you don’t have to use four or five like I do, but lighting a candle and soaking in some warm water can do wonders for yourself. This would also be a perfect opportunity to use bath salts, a bath bomb, or that unused bottle of bubble bath that you haven’t used in a while.

4. Watching something in bed on Netflix/Hulu/whatever is around these days

Sometimes when I want to just get away from it all, I hop on my laptop or switch over to my Roku and pick up where I left off on my Netflix/Hulu watch list. I have a list of things to watch a mile long, so finding something to temporarily distract me from stress isn’t a problem.

Whenever I watch something on Netflix, I usually commit to it. Meaning, I’m in the bed with snacks and underneath by comforter and watching until I fall asleep. This something you can easily do as well!

5. Go on a drive

Perhaps one of my favorite things to do when I want to be alone and do some thinking is to take a drive. I hop in my red Kia Rio and just take off.

My college town is rather small and I know loads of back streets, so I have to get creative when I do take long drives. I try to take turns I never have before and just let my mind guide me. When I do take a drive, I usually like to play an album I haven’t heard yet to see what songs I like from it.

Car rides are so relaxing to me. With music blasting and often times windows rolled down, it is definitely my favorite self-care method. When I take a drive, I always find something new or some new shortcut that I never knew existed.

I know for many, gas would probably be an issue, but I still recommend this self-care activity. You can easily shorten your drive to just around the block or down the road. No distance is too short!

There are way more than five ways to practice self-care, but these are just my favorites!
