The 5 Brown Girl Friendly Lipsticks You Need This Winter

Welcome back, y’all! As fall winds down and the official start of winter is fast approaching, you might be wondering what kind of lip colors and lipsticks you should pair with your chunky scarves, fur vests and that glowing melanin.

Three words: dark, dark, dark!

As I mentioned in my very first post, I am a sucker for beautiful dark lipsticks. Matte, suede, gloss, you name it! Today’s post will be all about my favorite dark lip shades that I think would be perfect for winter, complete with swatches.

For shade reference, I am a 130 Cocoa in Maybelline’s Dream Liquid Mousse Foundation, 450 Mocha in Revlon’s ColorStay Makeup For Combination/Oily Skin and NW50 in MAC’s Studio Fix Fluid, according to Findation, a website dedicated to finding out your perfect foundation shade using makeup shades you’ve already worn before. Check it out here!

Disclosure: This post contains referral links which means that if you purchase from one of my links, I will receive a small percentage of the sale.

If you like glosses…

Try NYX’s Intense Butter Gloss in Blueberry Tart!

When you first pick up this gloss, you might be inclined to think that it’s going to be blue. In reality, this is a shiny dark purple that remains glossy just about all day. Two or three swipes of this gloss and you’ll be set all throughout the day!

Find this gloss at Amazon for $8.49.

If you like mattes…

Try Urban Decay’s Vice Liquid Lipstick in Blackmail!

While it appears brown in its container, Blackmail is actually a purple with reddish undertones. When looked at in the sunlight, however, it does appear brown. Dubbed as long-lasting and waterproof, it definitely lives up to its name! I did not have to reapply this lipstick at all throughout the day, even when eating pizza and whatnot. I totally recommend this one.

Find this matte on Urban Decay’s website for $18.00 or at Ulta for half the price.

If you like liquid lipsticks…

Try Colourpop’s Ultra Satin Lip in Hutch!

I’ve been a fan of Colourpop since their early days because they have loads of shades, is incredibly affordable, and has an amazing formula. Hutch ticks off all of these checks and more. While it goes on shiny, it dries to a matte-like dark purple.

Grab this Ultra Satin Lip on their website for $6.00!

If you love red…

Try NYX’s Liquid Suede in Cherry Skies!

If it wasn’t too obvious throughout my post, I am in love with NYX. I’ve never been disappointed with any of their lipsticks or other products. Cherry Skies is the perfect red for anybody’s that’s ever been told that they “couldn’t pull off red” or “red wasn’t their color”. It’s not totally loud and would fit right in with the last of the fall colored leaves on the trees.

Grab Cherry Skies on Amazon for $8.99.

If you’re on a budget…

Try Black Radiance’s Perfect Tone Matte Lip Creme in Succulent Plum!

The last shade I’d recommend is Succulent Plum. This matte won’t dry as much as NYX or Colourpop will and will take a few swipes to stay on your lips, but once it does, it’s on there pretty much all day. Black Radiance is the perfect line to try out if it is your first foray in dark lipsticks, so it won’t be much of a loss if you end up not liking a dark shade.

You can purchase Succulent Plum on Black Radiance’s website for $3.99.

Are there any shades that I missed or should try out? Let me know in the comments below!

Until next time,
